Welcome to The Pewter Pineapple!  We’re so glad you are here!  Jenna and I just wanted to take a few min to introduce ourselves.  You found my little bio, but if you haven’t read Jen’s bio be sure to hop over and learn a little more about her!  We are cousins, but really more like sisters! We have so many fun ideas to share with you!

Hi, I’m Brittany, I’m a vintage loving, thrift and antique enthusiast who enjoys a beautifully decorated home, fresh baked cookies, and a really good project. Despite being an introvert, one of my passions in life is throwing a really good party!

Jenna and I have thrown a number of parties together now, including the 60th birthday parties for both of our moms and our Aunt, and it was through planning and pulling off these parties that the idea of The Pewter Pineapple was born. Collaborating on those parties, reminded us of all the fun summers we spent together as kids.

I don’t just enjoy throwing big events.  I absolutely love having people over for something as simple as happy hour, girls night, dinner party, clothing exchange, or a spontaneous wine in our pjs night.  Any excuse to make some special moments with people I love.

As a recovering perfectionist I used to be constantly stressed out before and during every event, everything had to be absolutely perfect.  As I’ve gotten older, and a tad bit wiser, I’m learning that the whole point of this stuff is to ENJOY being with the people you care about.  I’ve been refining my methods and learned an awful lot along the way about how to plan an event with less stress and more ease and enjoyment. I’m so excited to share my tips and tricks with you.

I’m a mom to the most adorable little boy, named Wesley.  You may see a photo or two of him around, I mean what kind of mom would I be if I didn’t eagerly reach for my cell phone saying “wanna see the cutest picture?” lol.  But, generally, we try not to put him up on social media too much.  I love that I get to stay home with him and come up with all kinds of fun activities to do together!  He is our first, hopefully not our last, and I hope to share some of the fun things I’ve learned so far and new things as I figure them out in the future!

I grew up in Southern and Northern California, and moved with my husband to Michigan after college, where we lived for 14 years. This past summer our little family relocated back to sunny California.  My husband works in the space robotics industry, yes, it is a thing.  Which is part of the reason we moved, the other part is to be closer to family, both our Moms, Wesley’s grandmas, live in CA.

When I’m not building charcuterie boards and setting out festive glasses, or chasing my toddler around in my leggings and mom-bun hair, I’m sort of a magpie of different hobbies, crafts and interests.  So here are 10 things you should know about me:

  1. I love to dance! I met my husband in college through swing dancing and we have been dancing through life together ever since.  In particular I do the vernacular jazz dances of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Shag, and my very favorite, Balboa.  If you have never heard of it I’m not surprised, it’s sort of an obscure dance that originated in southern California at the height of the big band era. Check out a few historical and modern clips, and just for fun, one clip of me.
  2. I have an Etsy shop and jewelry brand, Fleurtations Jewelry, which I am the owner and designer of!  I spent two years on the Art fair circuit before I took it completely online.  Its like I have a little love affair with each and every piece of jewelry I make. My designs are inspired by my enchantment with places, things, shapes, colors, seasons, anything that feels beautiful, fresh and romantic.  Check out my Etsy shop here.
  3. I worked as a seamstress while I was getting my Psychology degree in college and on-and-off for many years after.  All in all I was a professional sewer for about 10 years and have done everything from making dresses, pants and suits from scratch; wedding dress alterations, pattern drafting, costume making, and so much more.  Now I sew just for fun and to help myself have a more sustainable closet, because (spoiler) I also love fashion!  Nothing like a good thrift flip or clothing exchange project!
  4. I’ve worked as a “High Tech Anthropologist”, at a custom software company, which is a user experience consultant, software interface designer/graphic designer, and organizational psychologist rolled into one.
  5. I love to Bake!  A deep love that I got from the elder generations of baking women in my family. I like to tweak recipes and find new ways to embellish old favorites.
  6. I love a DIY home project.  In our house in Michigan we were slowly working our way through each room of the house.  We tackled remodeling the kitchen ourselves, I hand painted tile in our guest bath, and we completely overhauled our landscaping! So many project, so little time. We have only been in the new place a few months and we have already tackled refinishing an original hardwood floor!
  7. I absolutely adore gardening.  Some of my favorite flowers are peonies, David Austin roses, and Hydrangeas, but I could go on and on.  I’m excited for the challenge of relearning how to garden in California. I also love floral arranging, though I’m not very good yet, so many skills to learn!
  8. I’m a budding oil painter and pastel artist.  Again very much at the beginning of my artists journey here. So many of the women in my family paint, it’s been such a wonderful way to connect with them and learn from them in yet another area of life. Check out my Mom’s art and my Aunts art!
  9. Travel is my happy place!  I love to travel!  The bucket list is long, and I’m hopeful that we will be able to do more in the future.  So far I’ve been to Thailand, Japan, Scotland, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Wales, Sweden, Belgium, Mexico, Canada, and a bunch of places in the the US.
  10. I LOVE to organize things:  drawers, cupboards, kitchens, baths, craft rooms…I’m a craft addict!  Yup I said it, I love the supplies, the activities, and everything in between. But sometimes I think what I enjoy more is organizing my supplies.  Ok I’m weird, but there really is nothing like walking into a well organized craft room and being able to just sit down and play to your heart’s content!  You may see a little bit of organizing content in the blog from time to time.

Colors I love: Teal, Mint, Plum, Mustard, Emerald, Fuchsia

Favorite foods: Sushi, Tacos, Churros, Ice Cream, strawberries and Mangos and coconut.

Most Enjoyed beverages: Water, a vanilla latte, Tiki drinks, and Prosecco with Bananne de Brazil. Actually I’m obsessed with banana flavored things! Real banana flavors. You may notice this pop up in recipes I will post from time to time. Don’t worry if you are not a fan, they won’t all have bananas in them.

Favorite Genre: I love Sci Fi books, movies, and TV shows!  I’m a bit of a nerd.
