It’s a new year which means most of us have a few goals in mind for the upcoming year. One of mine is to be more active, more often. I have always struggled with figuring out where to fit a workout into my day. First thing in the morning workouts don’t typically work for my blood sugar (I have Type 1 diabetes, if you didn’t know!) so it’s usually a late morning/afternoon/early evening thing. For a good long chunk of time, I would finish work at 5 and then do a stationary bike ride for 45 minutes to an hour. Unfortunately a few years ago I got out of the habit and haven’t found a replacement until now. A walking pad!

I recently got a walking pad and a standing desk so that I can get my workout in while I work. It has been revolutionary!! I find that for the type of work I do, I have to be cognizant of whats on the docket for the day because some things require more detailed work that I can’t do while walking full speed. So I usually plan my day in my mind and see how I can organize things to fit around work and walking.

I got the WalkingPad C2 Mini Foldable Walking Treadmill. It folds in half so that it can fit in more spaces and it has wheels on one end which make it super easy to move. It is often on sale and there are some coupon codes out there. It can be purchased at Amazon or on the WalkingPad website. My mom and I each bought one at separate times around Christmas. Both were purchased on the WalkingPad website because of the deals they were offering. One of my favorite podcasts, which is where I first head about this walking pad, often has a coupon code that can get you 20-30% off. You can find their coupons on instagram under their WalkingPad highlight (I believe they do get a commission when their coupon code is used. Just fyi.).

This walking pad is considerably more expensive than some of the others out there. I will say I have been extremely impressed with it. It’s so quiet that I can talk on the phone without the person on the other end really knowing what I am doing. It is also very sturdy and seems to be well made. It doesn’t creak and crackle as you walk on it, it feels super stable. This one also connects to an app on your phone that you can use to control the walking pad and track your stats. Since the screen of the walking pad is under the desk, it can be a bit hard to see distance and speed, so the app makes it much easier to check in on those stats. After your workout the app also sends info to the health app on iPhone. The app is also available for other phone models. I’ve barely scratched the surface on the features that this thing has, so be sure to check out their website or amazon if you’re at all interested.

I also got a standing desk for Christmas to complete the walkingpad set up. I wanted something really simple but effective and settled on this desk from amazon. It’s not too expensive compared to some others, and it has just enough bells and whistles. The drawer isn’t huge but it holds enough to keep the essentials close by. The programmable height presets are really nice and make raising and lowering very easy. Plus it has USB charging ports right on the front. I’m still fine tuning my cord situation. It’s a bit of an eye sore at the moment :/

I’m a bit of a weirdo and the last thing I needed to truly complete my set up was a pair of shoes specifically for the walking pad. I didn’t want to be wearing my icky outside shoes on the walking pad and inadvertently track dirt into the house. When I found these ASICS last year, they became my new favorites. So now I have a pair for outside and a pair for my walking pad. I know, it’s super extra. But I am really enjoying my clean shoes!

For years I had heard people talk about standing desks but for some reason I never really thought of it for myself. Not sure what I was thinking because I am now obsessed. Now if I could just find an easy solution for some of my other goals for 2025, I’d be set!
